Android 11 is very similar to Android 10 and so not much might be noticed. However, there are a few things to note about the recent update to the operating system (OS). From improved device and media controls to built-in screen recording, here is what you need to know about the important new features of android 11.
Improved Device & Media Controls
In the new update you can now control all your smart devices from a single place. This was Google’s response to the increase in demand of smart home tech. To access this feature hold down the power button and the tool will launch. On the top of the display you’ll see the power features followed by a Google Pay shortcut and finally the smart home devices. Here you will be able to add, remove, and interact with devices, such as unlocking your doors, or turning off your lights.
Media controls have also been updated with the ability to quickly change the device that your media plays on. When swiping down into the notification menu, you will see the media controller along with basic controls and information about what is currently playing.
Manage Conversations In One Place
Managing conversations has gotten easier with the new update. Now you’re able to view, respond, and control conversations from a variety of messaging apps all in one spot. There is also a feature that allows you to prioritize conversations which places them on the lock screen. Along with this feature comes a notification category system. The categories are Conversations, Alerting, and Silent. The silent category as the name suggests does not send out any alerts.
Built-in Screen Recording
Android finally gets a built-in screen recording with Android 11. Without the use of an additional app, you can now record with sound from your device and/or mic. You can access this feature through the Quick Settings tiles. The screen recording is simple yet efficient. It allows you to choose a few options before recording, such as whether to capture audio and/or screen touches.
Android Auto
Android 11 now allows Android Auto to work wirelessly with your device. However, not every vehicle will have the supported feature given it’s a few years old.
More Privacy Controls
With Android 11 you can control what apps can access in more ways than before. You can give one-time permissions to applications that require various features of your phone, such as access to your microphone, camera, and location. This will require the app to ask again when access is required a second time. Another feature added was permissions auto-reset. When google detects that an app wasn’t used in a long time, it will reset the permissions for the unused app.
