The Android mobile operating system (OS) is a Linux based open source OS that is widely used all over the world. According to The Verge, Google announced that 2.5 billion active devices worldwide run on Android. Since Android OS is an open source platform original equipment manufacturers (OEM) like Samsung, Motorola, or Huawei have custom user interface (UI) software overlay on stock Android OS, putting there own spin on the OS.
Stock android is the original software provided by Google without any of the modifications. Originally available for the LG Nexus series and now the Google Pixel series, stock Android continues to be used exclusively by the consumers of these products. Many of them love stock Android for its clean experience.
1) Immediate updates!
Unlike users of the other OEM smartphones, updates may take a long time to send to the phone because of the great amount of software modification manufacturers must go through before the update can roll out to your device. Stock Android users won’t have to deal with the wait time, and will receive updates immediately after Google releases them. This could be quite useful in the case of security updates. However, this also means stock Android users will be the first to experience any bugs or glitches caused by new updates which might make them feel like a guinea pig.
2) Bloatware- free
Android phone manufacturers equip their phones with their brand’s pre-installed apps that their consumers rarely use. Many times these apps are unable to be uninstalled and are already offered by Google, or its Play Store. These redundant apps, along with additional user interface(UI) software modifications take up storage space, processor, and RAM resources. This delivers an increasingly slower experience over time.
3) Clean and minimalist design
This may vary from person to person, but I personally enjoy the simple, clean, and minimalist look on stock Android as a Pixel 3XL user. The simplicity makes it easy on the eyes and easier for new users adapt some of the best android stock features.
All versions of Android have their pros and cons, and the manufacturers may add features that appeal to the tastes of their consumers. That being said, the simple, efficient design of stock Android might be your cup of tech!
