Samsung SmartThings Pushes for Further Compatibility

Samsung SmartThings is focused on creating smart home products that enable home automation for Samsung and SmartThings compatible appliances and electronics. The basic idea is a central hub providing connectivity to all compatible devices, TVs, air conditioners, light bulbs, thermostats, washers etc. The wider the scope of compatibility the more useful and solidified the eco system becomes to its users. With so many devices on the market and in house options this can be a difficult task. Samsung stated, this is the solution SmartThings has offered since it’s inception, an open platform that can connect all of the user’s home Internet of Things (IoT) devices with ease, and truly deliver the smart home product. SmartThings had over 200+ compatible devices in 2015, now supporting up to 5k devices and 50 million active users. Some of those capabilities include Google assistant, Philips Hue, Ecobee, Ring as well as the core array of SmartThings products.

Samsung SmartThings recently announced at CES 2020 their latest push for the smart home ecosystem in partnership with SmartCar, to enable the ecosystem’s integration with U.S cars. Current SmartCar API compatibility includes Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Jeep, Lexus, Lincoln, Ram Trucks, Tesla, and Volkswagen vehicles. The SmartCar API provides users with the functionality for locating their vehicle, reading it’s mileage, unlocking its doors etc. Users will be able to create automated executions based on their circumstances like location and their day to day routines. Samsung is planning to incorporate and release this functionality later this year.
